Acute inpatient behavioral health
Inpatient treatment programs at South Strand Medical Center provide crisis intervention and stabilization in a supportive setting. All inpatient programs offer a safe, caring and comprehensive environment with services that include:
- 24/7 access to psychiatric and medical professionals
- Family sessions
- Group therapy sessions with master’s level therapists
- Medication management
- One-on-one therapy sessions with a psychiatrist
- Structured therapeutic recreation groups
Our 22-bed adult inpatient unit provides specialized care, such as cognitive therapy and individualized psychotherapy.

Inpatient mental health care for women
We also provide acute mental health care to address the specific needs of women. This specialized inpatient program is led by female therapists who use evidence-based techniques to help you deal with complex life issues, including:
- Forming healthy relationships
- Managing emotions
- Sexuality
- Trauma
You will learn healthy coping techniques during group therapy, such as cognitive restructuring and emotional regulation. Group sizes in this program are kept small to help foster feelings of comfort and safety during sessions.
Inpatient discharge planning and recovery
Aftercare planning is a critical part of the inpatient treatment process. Our team works with you to develop a plan that continues to meet your long-term goals. When needed, sessions for family members are available to help them understand your goals and provide support throughout your recovery process.
Adult partial hospitalization program (PHP)
Our outpatient adult PHP empowers you to develop effective strategies to find emotional wellness. We teach new ways to cope with stress, anxiety and depression.
Our PHP is designed to help if you:
- Are 18 years old or older
- Are experiencing behavioral or emotional difficulties
- Are stepping down from inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or are at risk of psychiatric hospitalization
- Have symptoms of depression, anxiety or other obstacles in everyday situations
- Need support to achieve stabilization
- Need to develop coping and stress management skills
Our PHP treatments
We use treatment grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) interventions. Treatments we offer include:
- Daily safety planning
- Evidence-based recovery
- Group, individual and family interventions
- Life skills practice opportunities
- Medication management
- Person-centered goal setting and treatment planning
- Psychiatric consultation
Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
We provide intensive outpatient programs for teens and adults who don't need inpatient care but still require a more structured program than individual therapy alone. The licensed therapists, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who lead these programs can help you with crisis management, grief, daily living skills and medication.
Adolescent IOP
Our adolescent IOP offers intermediate care for teens 13 to 17 years old. The program provides short-term, intensive programming that allows your teen to still participate in school and community activities. We help them develop new tools to manage and resolve the practical challenges of everyday life, as well as the specific challenges of adolescence.
In addition to structured group therapy with a licensed clinician three evenings weekly, this IOP includes:
- Behavioral life skills training
- CBT
- DBT
- Family-centered participation one evening weekly
- Interpersonal effectiveness skills building
- Medication management
- Psychiatric evaluation
Adult IOP
Our adult IOP program integrates the latest clinical research validated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide you with new tools to master the challenges of everyday life.
You will participate in therapeutic groups that provide peer support and accountability. The treatment groups are facilitated by licensed therapists and designed to help you address life's challenges.
